Super Rare Fontana Arte 30 Foot Long Cable Lamp – Piero Castiglioni
I bought this lamp almost 40 years ago and its been sitting in the closet all this time. It was purchased from the estate of an important designer. For many years he was the creative director at Pirelli. His widow told me that Castiglioni was one of his favorite designers. We did not alter the lamp in any way and it still is wired for Europe. I did notice that the cable hangers on the ends of the wire did have 2 small screws replaced… you can see that in the close up. The lamp is signed, the glass tube, wire and parts all look original. I spent some time looking for other examples or information on this lamp but found nothing. It may even be a prototype. The lamp, wire and cable run an amazing 30 foot between the chromed brackets. Note that the lamps wire is unique to this lamp. The hanging woven cable is in the same casing as the 2 electrical wires. This was an elaborate and costly design choice to give the lamp a cleaner look. I am guessing the brackets mounted to the walls and stretched horizontal across the whole room. We do not have the bulb but believe it was a halogen. If you are a collector then you already know how rare this is… $2400
